In 2000, Dr. Patterson was appointed Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, OR. As Medical Director of the program Dr. Patterson has led the way in helping the program grow from its infancy into a nationally recognized Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence; she has also been actively involved in training future bariatric surgeons through the Bariatric Fellowship Program at Legacy Hospitals. This designation mirrors Dr. Patterson’s dedication to excellence and her commitment to meeting the specific needs of obese patients. In addition, Dr. Patterson is also an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, serves as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University, and is continually educating herself to remain on the cutting edge of scientific and technological advancements in the field of laparoscopic surgery and bariatrics.

Major Accomplishments
Dr. Patterson was the first surgeon in the Northwest to specialize in laparoscopic bariatric surgery; she performed the first laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding surgery with the Lap-Band in the region. Throughout the course of her career she has received numerous awards including: Poster of Distinction, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons Scientific Session, Denver (2004); 1st Place Poster, 8th World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery, New York (2002); and I.B. Holubitsky Memorial Award for Academic Excellence in Residency, University of British Columbia (1999). Portland Monthly recently named Dr. Patterson as one of their Top Doctors in 2011, chosen by her peers as one of the Top Portland Area Specialists.
Dr. Patterson is the principle investigator on a number of clinical research trials and investigational devices studies. She has published numerous journal articles and book chapters on bariatrics, including a July 2009 article in the New England Journal of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Patterson has also led faculty postgraduate courses and has presented lectures and posters at several professional meetings both here in the United States and around the world.
